Soldiering on

A good day's birding, but lacking any new rarities. Started the day again in the centre of Hugh Town with the Subalpine Warbler in bright sunshine.

From here it was more of the same, with better views of the Short-toed Lark on the airfield. Still no sign of the Vireo at Carreg Dhu, but great views of Firecrest and Red-breasted Flycatcher as the weather began to deteriorate. At least 2 Hobby here, with 2 flying together and another couple of singles flying over.

Firecrest
A Cattle Egret was a fly-over as we headed to Porthellick past several Yellow-browed Warbler. On the pool, as we sheltered from the, were 8 Jack Snipe. The rain got heavier, so we retreated to the strudel house picking up a Merlin on the way.

Strudel
The weather was grim as we left, but the large numbers of Meadow Pipit, Skylark and thrushes dropping with the rain gives hope for tomorrow. A Black Redstart at Porthloo at dusk completed the day.
