Black Guillemot

With just a very light southerly the seabird passage past Whitburn had slowed today. We did however manage some decent waders with a Curlew Sandpiper, both Godwits and 2 Whimbrel.

Star bird of the day was a Black Guillemot that I picked up on the sea about 400m out. It gradually drifted and paddled south allowing several to twitch it, including Peter, who was beaming after his awful miss of the bird on Monday. Full results here.

3 Ruff were at Boldon Flats when I passed.

Quiet back in Gateshead where there wee still 7 Black-tailed Godwit at Shibdon.

I had just packed in for the day when a text from Alan got me over to Far Pasture where there was a smart drake Mandarin.
