Little Egret

Just local today. Birtley reed beds held 4 calling Water Rail and a Kingfisher. Northumbrian Water have done a good job in opening the viewing areas here, so hopefully a Bittern will soon be found.

At Lamesley Mike found a Little Egret, a site first for me. Still pretty rare in Gateshead and the first December record. Also here a Wigeon dropped in to join 100+ Teal.

At Shibdon there were still 4 Black-tailed Godwit ( hopefully they'll stop into the new year). 6 Dunlin dropped in with a flock of Redshank and 7 Shoveler were hanging around the island.
